Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She was wicked… Everyone knew that Valerie Storm was the baddest bit—um, witch on the block. She might look like Snow White, but she had the heart of a wicked queen. She turned her enemies to ash, she danced on their graves, and she had to be stopped. But who could stand up to someone so wicked? He was wild. Griffin Bastien was the most powerful shifter to ever walk the earth. His claws had sent plenty of his foes to the grave. Bloodlust burned fast and hard within him, and when his beast took over, there was no stopping him. Then Wicked met Wild. Neither of them believed in love. And neither of them ever expected the firestorm that ignited when they kissed. But some things—some people—can’t be controlled. The need that Valerie and Griffin feel for each other, the white-hot lust, will change their world. Even hell doesn’t burn this hot. Too bad that Griffin has been keeping secrets. Too bad that he is the original assassin sent to destroy Valerie. Because when she finds out the truth, there will be no greater fury than a wicked witch betrayed. Even the biggest, baddest beast might discover that he’s absolutely lost when a witch casts her spell, and he will be willing to do anything to reclaim the mate he never expected. Buckle up, it’s gonna be a wild ride. Author's Note: WICKED AND WILD is a complete, stand-alone story that is set in the world of my "Bad Things" paranormal books. Expect a sexy alpha, a very fierce heroine, and hot times ahead.

Book Synopsis The Wild and the Wicked by : Benjamin Hale

Download or read book The Wild and the Wicked written by Benjamin Hale and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brief foray into a moral thicket, exploring why we should protect nature despite tsunamis, malaria, bird flu, cancer, killer asteroids, and tofu. Most of us think that in order to be environmentalists, we have to love nature. Essentially, we should be tree huggers—embracing majestic redwoods, mighty oaks, graceful birches, etc. We ought to eat granola, drive hybrids, cook tofu, and write our appointments in Sierra Club calendars. Nature's splendor, in other words, justifies our protection of it. But, asks Benjamin Hale in this provocative book, what about tsunamis, earthquakes, cancer, bird flu, killer asteroids? They are nature, too. For years, environmentalists have insisted that nature is fundamentally good. In The Wild and the Wicked, Benjamin Hale adopts the opposite position—that much of the time nature can be bad—in order to show that even if nature is cruel, we still need to be environmentally conscientious. Hale argues that environmentalists needn't feel compelled to defend the value of nature, or even to adopt the attitudes of tree-hugging nature lovers. We can acknowledge nature's indifference and periodic hostility. Deftly weaving anecdote and philosophy, he shows that we don't need to love nature to be green. What really ought to be driving our environmentalism is our humanity, not nature's value. Hale argues that our unique burden as human beings is that we can act for reasons, good or bad. He claims that we should be environmentalists because environmentalism is right, because we humans have the capacity to be better than nature. As humans, we fail to live up to our moral potential if we act as brutally as nature. Hale argues that despite nature's indifference to the plight of humanity, humanity cannot be indifferent to the plight of nature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was supposed to be a three day affair, but Vegas lights, and wild, hot nights led to something so much more. Traditionally, a best man and maid of honor are there to support the happy couple, and keep them as calm as possible before their wedding, which is the only reason why Grant and Monica haven't traded blows, even if they can't stop trading insults. When Grant shows up to witness the quickie Vegas wedding of his best friend, he takes an instant disliking to the maid of honor, and the feeling is mutual. Monica knows her style of dress is a far cry from conservative, actually not even close, but she is not the superficial, vapid gold-digger that Grant seems to think she is. After years spent as a gangly, unattractive shy geek, she has finally embraced her body and refuses to let anyone trample upon her hard earned confidence, especially not an old-fashioned, chauvinist snob like Grant. From the moment they meet the fireworks fly, as they battle their attraction to each other, preferring to hide it behind their mutual animosity. But their attraction refuses to be ignored, sending them spiraling head first into a wicked, wild three day affair with more than enough heat to scorch the Las Vegas desert.

Brothel owner Lizzy McGrath once had a local church demolished to build her new bordello. Milt Yarberry, the town's first marshal, was hanged for murder. And the controversial Elfego Baca, who had the gall to face Pancho Villa, survived a thirty-six-hour gunfight unscathed. Author Cody Polston presents the tales of those who slipped through the cracks of morality.

Book excerpt: At times haunting, but also therapeutic and healing, Love Triangle explores the traumatizing effects of mental illness and exposes the feelings and emotions of someone who has suffered abuse. Through poems and short stories-a portion of them written in Russian-author Kate Valery relates the experience of living with someone afflicted with mental illness and the abuse that follows. The title poem, "Love Triangle," captures the essence of the harrowing experience: / You, me, and the wicked wild animal / Nestled in your brain. / You, me, and the wicked wild animal / Tried to push me 'neath a train. / You, me, and the wicked wild animal / Tried to drown me in a pool. / You, me, and the wicked wild animal; / Thought that it would be so cool / Love Triangle not only delves into powerful emotions, but also serves to inspire. Augmented with photos and illustrations, this anthology encourages abused women to find the inner power to stand up for themselves, to fight for themselves, to run for freedom, to restore their souls, and to seek renewed self-esteem, success, respect, life, and love.
