Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Earth is in peril—through pollution, global warming, oil spills, and tragic neglect of the environment. Those who respond first are the animals. There is The Fluff, a penguin; Creamy, a harp seal; Tomás, a black bear; Flora, a polar bear; and Lady Athabasca, a whooping crane, among others. Each of them has suffered from global warming and the neglect of the environment, and wants to do something about it. They jump on a magical train powered by positive thoughts and take off to let others know about the problems Earth’s creatures are facing. Soon afterward, they travel to Santa Fe and pick up two young girls, Marina and Joanna, who record their incredible trip. The group travels east (as well as north and south) and along the way finds other friends who have endured hardship from fire, drought, and hurricanes. Their final destination is the White House where they hope their call for help is heard. With this book, young readers can join The Fluff and friends on the Global Warming Express to save our beautiful planet from pollution and global warming. It will be a trip worth taking!

Book Synopsis Climate Wars by : Harald Welzer

Download or read book Climate Wars written by Harald Welzer and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-02-12 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Struggles over drinking water, new outbreaks of mass violence, ethnic cleansing, civil wars in the earth's poorest countries, endless flows of refugees: these are the new conflicts and forces shaping the world of the 21st century. They no longer hinge on ideological rivalries between great powers but rather on issues of class, religion and resources. The genocides of the last century have taught us how quickly social problems can spill over into radical and deadly solutions. Rich countries are already developing strategies to garner resources and keep 'climate refugees' at bay. In this major book Harald Welzer shows how climate change and violence go hand in hand. Climate change has far-reaching consequences for the living conditions of peoples around the world: inhabitable spaces shrink, scarce resources become scarcer, injustices grow deeper, not only between North and South but also between generations, storing up material for new social tensions and giving rise to violent conflicts, civil wars and massive refugee flows. Climate change poses major new challenges in terms of security, responsibility and justice, but as Welzer makes disturbingly clear, very little is being done to confront them. The paperback edition includes a new Preface that brings the book up to date and addresses the most recent developments and trends.

Book Synopsis Warming the World by : William D. Nordhaus

Download or read book Warming the World written by William D. Nordhaus and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2003-08-11 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents in detail a pair of models of the economics of climate change. The models, called RICE-99 (for the Regional Dynamic Integrated model of Climate and the Economy) and DICE-99 (for the Dynamic Integrated Model of Climate and the Economy) build on the authors' earlier work, particularly their RICE and DICE models of the early 1990s. Humanity is risking the health of the natural environment through a myriad of interventions, including the atmospheric emission of trace gases such as carbon dioxide, the use of ozone-depleting chemicals, the engineering of massive land-use changes, and the destruction of the habitats of many species. It is imperative that we learn to protect our common geophysical and biological resources. Although scientists have studied greenhouse warming for decades, it is only recently that society has begun to consider the economic, political, and institutional aspects of environmental intervention. To do so raises formidable challenges of data modeling, uncertainty, international coordination, and institutional design. Attempts to deal with complex scientific and economic issues have increasingly involved the use of models to help analysts and decision makers understand likely future outcomes as well as the implications of alternative policies. This book presents in detail a pair of models of the economics of climate change. The models, called RICE-99 (for the Regional Dynamic Integrated model of Climate and the Economy) and DICE-99 (for the Dynamic Integrated Model of Climate and the Economy) build on the authors' earlier work, particularly their RICE and DICE models of the early 1990s. They can help policy makers design better economic and environmental policies.

Book Synopsis Global Warming by : Ishita Haldar

Download or read book Global Warming written by Ishita Haldar and published by Readworthy . This book was released on with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global warming and climate change have become an issue of great concern. Now as the world is getting technologically and industrially more advanced, resulting in the setting up of huge factories, the environmental pollution is heading towards alarming levels. It is obvious that more factories mean more pollution and more carbon emissions, which highly aggravate global warming. Keeping this in view, the policy makers from all over the w¬orld have decided to unite and chalk out a plan to keep the adverse effects of global warming within safety limits. This book is also an effort in this direction. Defining in detail the major aspects of global warming, it discusses at length its causes and effects. Taking a close look at the global response to contain global warming, it also explains the important provisions of Copenhagen Summit, Kyoto Protocol and Post-Kyoto Protocol Negotiations on Green-house Gas Emissions.
