Book excerpt: After completing an eight-week speaking engagement run for his success in Grand Junction, Colorado, Daniel returns to his quiet law practice in Ironton, Colorado. With almost no cases going on and the bills piling up, Daniel is starting to get worried. Barry wants Daniel to take the case of his poor security officer, Bill Berman, whom after being shot by the bandit, is charged with their alleged murder. Daniel takes on the case and is once again up against the best that the 6th Judicial District has to offer. The evidence that is gathered seems to be all too conveniently pointing to the accused security officer. Daniel doesnt like it one bit and decides to use his resources to find the real killer. For Daniel the choices are grim for Bill Berman; life in prison without parole for First Degree Murder, 20-years to life for Second Degree Murder or 15-years to life for Manslaughter. Daniel doesnt accept any of the plea bargains offered by Linda. While preparing for the forthcoming arraignment, preliminary hearing and soon to follow trial, a terrible set of events befalls Daniel. See the conclusion of this case in The Case of the Missing Coffee Pot.

Book Synopsis Knowledge by : Jennifer Nagel

Download or read book Knowledge written by Jennifer Nagel and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2014 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is knowledge? Is it the same as opinion or truth? Do you need to be able to justify a claim in order to count as knowing it? How can we know that the outer world is real and not a dream? Questions like these have existed since ancient times, and the branch of philosophy dedicated to answering them - epistemology - has been active for thousands of years. In this thought-provoking Very Short Introduction, Jennifer Nagel considers the central problems and paradoxes in the theory of knowledge and draws attention to the ways in which philosophers and theorists have responded to them. By exploring the relationship between knowledge and truth, and considering the problem of scepticism, Nagel introduces a series of influential historical and contemporary theories of knowledge, incorporating methods from logic, linguistics, and psychology, using a number of everyday examples to demonstrate the key issues and debates. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is knowledge? Where does it come from? What kinds of knowledge are there? Can we know anything at all? What is the practical relevance of learning about epistemology? This lucid and engaging introduction grapples with these central questions in the theory of knowledge, offering a clear, non-partisan view of the main themes of epistemology. Both traditional issues and contemporary ideas are discussed in twenty easily digestible chapters, each of which conclude with a useful summary of the main ideas discussed, study questions, annotated further reading and a guide to internet resources. Each chapter also features text boxes providing bite-sized summaries of key concepts and major philosophers, and clear and interesting examples are used throughout. The book concludes with an annotated guide to general introductions to epistemology, a glossary of key terms, and a summary of the main examples used in epistemology. This an ideal first textbook in the theory of knowledge for undergraduates coming to philosophy for the first time. The fourth edition has been revised and updated throughout and features four new chapters on applied epistemology, covering the relationship between the theory of knowledge and technology, education, law, and politics. In addition, the text as a whole has been refreshed to keep it up to date with current developments.

Book excerpt: For the people of Freemont Indiana, Henry Fontaine is their most enduring claim to fame. After a childhood spent as one of Freemont's poorest farm boys, Henry rose from obscurity to become one of the most influential movie stars of the 1960's, only to lose his life in a tragic motorcycle accident at age twenty-five. Inspired by the films of Henry Fontaine, Lucy Cole has created the Fontaine Gallery, a museum of sorts that boasts the most comprehensive collection of Fontaine artifacts and memorabilia in the world. Lucy has always had a special love for Henry and believes that everyone else in Freemont does as well. But someone is harboring a dark hatred for the long-dead film star, and after Fontaine's remains are stolen from the local cemetery, Lucy vows to do what she can to find out who's responsible. She soon discovers that Freemont is a town plagued with crooked police, violent residents, and hidden dangers. What begins as a simple search for local vandals soon grows into a deeper mystery as Lucy learns the truth about Henry Fontaine. He hadn't died in a motorcycle accident. He was murdered, and the killer may be close.
