Book excerpt: Tables of the Principal Unitary Representations of Fedorov Groups contains tables of all the principal representations of Fedorov groups from which all irreducible unitary representations can be obtained with the help of some standard operations. The work originated at a seminar on mathematical crystallography held in 1952-1953 at the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Leningrad State University. The book is divided into two parts. The first part discusses the relation between the theory of representations and the generalized Fedorov groups in Shubnikov's sense. It shows that all unidimensional representations of Fedorov groups are basic, and hence are given in the tables. In particular, all representations defining generalized Fedorov groups are given in the tables. However, it should be noted that the same generalized Fedorov group may correspond to different representations, if the latter cross each other in certain automorphisms of the Fedorov group to be represented. The second part contains the tables of the principal unitary representations of Fedorov groups.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensively revised – essentially rewritten – new edition of the 1990 edition (described as "extremely useful" by MATHEMATICAL REVIEWS and as "understandable and comprehensive" by Scitech) guides readers through the dense array of mathematical information in the International Tables Volume A. Thus, most scientists seeking to understand a crystal structure publication can do this from this book without necessarily having to consult the International Tables themselves. This remains the only book aimed at non-crystallographers devoted to teaching them about crystallographic space groups. - Reflecting the bewildering array of recent changes to the International Tables, this new edition brings the standard of science well up-to-date, reorganizes the logical order of chapters, improves diagrams and presents clearer explanations to aid understanding - Clarifies, condenses and simplifies the meaning of the deeply written, complete Tables of Crystallography into manageable chunks - Provides a detailed, multi-factor, interdisciplinary explanation of how to use the International Tables for a number of possible, hitherto unexplored uses - Presents essential knowledge to those needing the necessary but missing pedagogical support and detailed advice – useful for instance in symmetry of domain walls in solids

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the construction of space group representations, their tabulation, and illustration of their use. Representation theory of space groups has a wide range of applications in modern physics and chemistry, including studies of electron and phonon spectra, structural and magnetic phase transitions, spectroscopy, neutron scattering, and superconductivity. The book presents a clear and practical method of deducing the matrices of all irreducible representations, including double-valued, and tabulates the matrices of irreducible projective representations for all 32 crystallographic point groups. One obtains the irreducible representations of all 230 space groups by multiplying the matrices presented in these compact and convenient to use tables by easily computed factors. A number of applications to the electronic band structure calculations are illustrated through real-life examples of different crystal structures. The book's content is accessible to both graduate and advanced undergraduate students with elementary knowledge of group theory and is useful to a wide range of experimentalists and theorists in materials and solid-state physics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tables of Racah Coefficients presents a compilation of tables of Racah coefficients. Racah coefficients appear and are widely used in a number of problems in quantum mechanics; in the theory of spectra of complex atoms and nuclei; in the theory of angular distributions of nuclear reactions; in the theory of angular correlations of decay particles; and many other problems where the sums of products of three or more Clebsch-Gordan coefficients occur. In compiling tables of Racah coefficients certain conditions can be imposed on the indices, which follow from the symmetry relations. Only those coefficients are given which satisfy these conditions. The present tables consist of three parts. The first part gives Racah coefficients in which the first four indices are half-integers, and the other two integers. The second gives Racah coefficients with integer indices. The third gives Racah coefficients in which the three indices, a, c, e are half-integers, and the other three are integers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tables of Laguerre Polynomials and Functions contains the values of Laguerre polynomials and Laguerre functions for n = 2 , 3 , . . . , 7 ; s = 0(0.1) 1; x = 0(0.1) 10(0.2) 30, and the zeroes and coefficients of the polynomials for n = 2 (1) 10 and s = 0(0.05) 1. The book also explains the Laguerre polynomials, their properties, Laguerre functions, and the tabulation of the Laguerre polynomials and functions. The book contains three tables: tables of values of Laguerre polynomials and functions, tables of the coefficients of the polynomials, and tables of their roots. The first table consists of six parts arranged successively in the ascending order of the degree n. Researchers have calculated the tables for a wider range of values of the parameters n, s and x (n = 2(1) 10, s = 0(0.05) 1, x = 0(0.1) 10(0.2) 30(0.5) 80) using computers at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Technology of the Byelorussian Academy of Sciences and the Computer Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the U.S.S.R. Scientists and investigators at computer centers, research institutes, and engineering organizations will find the book highly valuable.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tables of Coulomb Wave Functions (Whittaker Functions) focuses on tables compiled in the Mathematical Physics Department in conjunction with the Nuclear Reactions Laboratory of the Nuclear Physics Research Institute of Moscow State University. The book first states that Coulomb wave functions are used in the theory of nuclear reactions with charged particles, including protons, deuterons, and heavy ions. The text then offers information on the compilation and use of tables. The publication proceeds by highlighting the computations of various wave functions. These computations are presented in tabulated form. The manuscript also provides a list of volumes in the mathematical tables series. The book is a dependable source of data for scientists, engineers, and students working in the field of nuclear reactions.
