Book excerpt: An Annotated Tour of the 1850s series of Stereo Photographs "Scenes in our Village" by T.R. WilliamsThis book is the perfect antidote to the stress of life in the 21st Century. It portrays the idyll of life in an 1850s village, "far from the sound of the train's whistle".The identity of the village was lost to the world for 150 years, and only by a miracle does this magical set of stereoscopic views survive, brought together for the very first time by Brian May and his co-author, photohistorian Elena Vidal. Their research is amazingly in-depth, but the book is utterly readable, and the pictures leap into glorious 3-D, viewed in the new focussing stereoscope which May has designed and produced, to bring the stereos to life, and then fold neatly into the slip-case of the book. The book gives an extraordinary insight into everyday village life at the time - with a woman at her spinning wheel, the blacksmith outside his smithy, three men at the grind stone sharpening a tool, the villagers in the fields, bringing in the harvest as well as often taking time to enjoy a good gossip. In every case the original verse which accompanied the view is reproduced. In addition, May and Vidal have researched and annotated all the views, revealing another layer of meaning, by exploring the history of these real characters, this idyllic village and its links with the present day. The result is a powerfully atmospheric and touching set of photographs." A Village Lost and Found brings master pioneering stereographer T. R. Williams's passionate life-work Scenes in Our Village to a new audience - in glorious 3-D, as never before. For an Electronic Press Kit for A Village Lost and Found click here

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why buy "Digital Stereoscopy"?Digital Stereoscopy is the bible of modern 3D technologies where students, amateurs, and professional stereographers will find a clear description of all 3D facets of the stereoscopic business as well as detailed info on the 3D image production, distribution, and presentation workflow. Abstract and special featuresStereoscopic images are a century old but the recent rise of digital 3D in all aspects of audiovisual production allows for a constant high quality level, making stereoscopy pleasant and comfortable for the viewer's eyes. The range of media influenced by stereoscopy is impressive, going from motion pictures and television to print and Internet distribution. This book will let you discover the basic principles of how we perceive objects in 3D, how we can shoot 3D pictures and movies, what digital processes are required to produce quality 3D images, and how 3D movies are distributed. We will also study less known aspects of the production workflow, such as 2D to 3D conversion, storage, real-time transmission for broadcasting, and 3D Blu-ray authoring. The various methods of displaying and projecting 3D images will be covered, along with their pros and cons. The book provides a large number of technical details on all these subjects, making it a reference work for professionals in the field, with explanations of the most commonly used software, hardware, and standards. To make the book as useful as possible, an abundance of sidebars explaining the most important concepts in each chapter and a glossary of the most frequently used 3D-specific terms have been included.

Book Synopsis Eyestrain Reduction in Stereoscopy by : Laure Leroy

Download or read book Eyestrain Reduction in Stereoscopy written by Laure Leroy and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stereoscopic processes are increasingly used in virtual reality and entertainment. This technology is interesting because it allows for a quick immersion of the user, especially in terms of depth perception and relief clues. However, these processes tend to cause stress on the visual system if used over a prolonged period of time, leading some to question the cause of side effects that these systems generate in their users, such as eye fatigue. This book explores the mechanisms of depth perception with and without stereoscopy and discusses the indices which are involved in the depth perception. The author describes the techniques used to capture and retransmit stereoscopic images. The causes of eyestrain related to these images are then presented along with their consequences in the long and short term. The study of the causes of eyestrain forms the basis for an improvement in these processes in the hopes of developing mechanisms for easier virtual viewing.
