Book excerpt: A TALE OF GOOD VS EVIL UNLIKE ANY OTHERTraverse through Arrdus with Silla, Omega, and company on an adventure rife with hardships, hope, despair, love, and magic. Can Silla, a seemingly normal woman in her early twenties, take on her predestined role of Goddess, and survive? Can Silla locate and protect the precious, powerful items of her predecessors? Many opposing forces exist; The Faithful, most fervent followers of the seven gods and goddesses have for millennia crusaded against the Goddess reincarnations. Though they are vast in number and influence, perhaps they pale in comparison to another of Silla' s future foes: Faulk, far to the northeast in his walled-in nation has been putting into motion plans of catastrophic evil that will test both Silla and Omega in more ways than they yet know. There are many characters worth falling in love with, but it is impossible to say who will survive and who will perish.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Buddhist Faith and Sudden Enlightenment explains how sudden enlightenment occurs through the awakening of patriarchal faith. This is the non-dual affirmation that one is already Buddha as opposed to the doctrinal, dualistic faith that one can become Buddha. The essence of the presentation is that patriarchal faith forms the basis for sudden enlightenment in Zen meditation. For the practitioner, this book establishes the Zen method of mind-cultivation on a higher level by introducing a new understanding of awakening right faith. Included is extensive material on the history of faith in Buddhism with the main attention devoted to Ch'an (Zen) and Hua-yen. There are also substantial discussions of Buddhist antecedents to these schools and of the Pure Land School. This is the first book in English to examine the central role of faith in Mahayana Buddhism. The author's approach develops from his personal experiences as a son (Zen) monk of the Chogye order, which was heavily influenced by the integration of meditation and scriptural study established by Chinul.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book explores the twin concepts, Womanbeing and Womanself. Using novels written by black women in the U.S., Africa and the Caribbean, the book illustrates how the characters live out their lives either in a state of womanbeing or in a state of womanself or both. To illustrate the twin concepts, the author draws from a work by Jean Paul Satre, titled Being and Nothingness. The author also theorizes on the origin of inequalities between men and women and how that led to the dominance of men over women. The author also claims that women perpetuate the surbordinate position of women unwittingly accepting the assertion by men that women are weak and need the guidance and protection of men.

Book Synopsis The Formation of Ch'an Ideology in China and Korea by : Robert E. Buswell, Jr.

Download or read book The Formation of Ch'an Ideology in China and Korea written by Robert E. Buswell, Jr. and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a translation and study of the Vajrasamadhi-Sutra and an examination of its broad implications for the development of East Asian Buddhism. The Vajrasamadhi-Sutra was traditionally assumed to have been translated from Sanskrit, but some modern scholars, principally in Japan, have proposed that it is instead an indigenous Chinese composition. In contrast to both of these views, Robert Buswell maintains it was written in Korea around A.D. 685 by a Korean adept affiliated with the East Mountain school of the nascent Chinese Ch'an tradition. He thus considers it to be the oldest work of Korean Ch'an (or Son, which in Japan became known as the Zen school), and the second-oldest work of the sinitic Ch'an tradition as a whole. Buswell makes his case for the scripture's dating, authorship, and provenance by placing the sutra in the context of Buddhist doctrinal writings and early Ch'an literature in China and Korea. This approach leads him to an extensive analysis of the origins of Ch'an ideology in both countries and of the principal trends in the sinicization of Buddhism. Buddhism has typically been studied in terms of independent national traditions, but Buswell maintains that the history of religion in China, Korea, and Japan should be treated as a whole.
