Book excerpt: Precious metal clay is a synthetic material developed by Mitsubishi that is increasingly becoming popular with both jewellers and potters. Silver is held in a clay-like suspension. The material can be shaped or attached to other materials as required. When the material is fired, the water in the suspension burns off and a solid silver object remains. The result is that this material is proving to be a useful technique for those working both in jewellery and mixed media areas. This title showcases the work of some of the world's leading practitioners using this material.
