Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rely on this robust and thorough guide to build and maintain successful test automation. As the software industry shifts from traditional waterfall paradigms into more agile ones, test automation becomes a highly important tool that allows your development teams to deliver software at an ever-increasing pace without compromising quality. Even though it may seem trivial to automate the repetitive tester’s work, using test automation efficiently and properly is not trivial. Many test automation endeavors end up in the “graveyard” of software projects. There are many things that affect the value of test automation, and also its costs. This book aims to cover all of these aspects in great detail so you can make decisions to create the best test automation solution that will not only help your test automation project to succeed, but also allow the entire software project to thrive. One of the most important details that affects the success of the test automation is how easy it is to maintain the automated tests. Complete Guide to Test Automation provides a detailed hands-on guide for writing highly maintainable test code. What You’ll Learn Know the real value to be expected from test automation Discover the key traits that will make your test automation project succeed Be aware of the different considerations to take into account when planning automated tests vs. manual tests Determine who should implement the tests and the implications of this decision Architect the test project and fit it to the architecture of the tested application Design and implement highly reliable automated tests Begin gaining value from test automation earlier Integrate test automation into the business processes of the development teamLeverage test automation to improve your organization's performance and quality, even without formal authority Understand how different types of automated tests will fit into your testing strategy, including unit testing, load and performance testing, visual testing, and more Who This Book Is For Those involved with software development such as test automation leads, QA managers, test automation developers, and development managers. Some parts of the book assume hands-on experience in writing code in an object-oriented language (mainly C# or Java), although most of the content is also relevant for nonprogrammers.

Download or read book Java for Testers written by MR Alan J Richardson and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for people who want to learn Java. Particularly people on a team that want to learn Java, but who aren't going to be coding the main Java application i.e. Testers, Managers, Business Analysts, Front End Developers, Designers, etc. If you already know Java then this book may not be for you. This book is aimed at beginners. Designed to help the reader get started fast, the book is easy to follow, and has examples related to testing. You can find the companion web site for the book at http: //javafortesters.com The book covers 'just enough' to get people writing tests and abstraction layers. For example, the book cover the basics of Inheritance, but doesn't really cover Interfaces in detail. We explain the concept of Interfaces, because we need to know it to understand Collections, but not how to write them. Why? Because the book covers enough to get you started, and working. But not overload the reader. Once you are on your way, and have gained some experience. You should have the basic knowledge to understand the additional concepts. Why 'for testers'? Java Developers coding production applications in Java need to learn Java differently from other people on the team. Throughout the author's career, he has have written thousands of lines of Java code, but has rarely had to compile the code into an application. Yet, when we learn Java from most books, one of the first things we learn is 'javac' and the 'main' method and working from the command line. And this is confusing. Most of the code the author writes is wrapped up in a JUnit @Test method. The author has trained many people to write automation in Java, and everytime he has taught Java to testers or other people on the team, we start with a JUnit @Test method and run tests from the IDE. Testers, and other people on the team use java differently. This book provides a different order and approach to learning Java. Book Synopsis Unit Testing in Java by : Johannes Link

Download or read book Unit Testing in Java written by Johannes Link and published by Morgan Kaufmann. This book was released on 2003-06-03 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software testing is indispensable and is one of the most discussed topics in software development today. Many companies address this issue by assigning a dedicated software testing phase towards the end of their development cycle. However, quality cannot be tested into a buggy application. Early and continuous unit testing has been shown to be crucial for high quality software and low defect rates. Yet current books on testing ignore the developer's point of view and give little guidance on how to bring the overwhelming amount of testing theory into practice. Unit Testing in Java represents a practical introduction to unit testing for software developers. It introduces the basic test-first approach and then discusses a large number of special issues and problem cases. The book instructs developers through each step and motivates them to explore further. Shows how the discovery and avoidance of software errors is a demanding and creative activity in its own right and can build confidence early in a project. Demonstrates how automated tests can detect the unwanted effects of small changes in code within the entire system. Discusses how testing works with persistency, concurrency, distribution, and web applications. Includes a discussion of testing with C++ and Smalltalk.
