Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is an extensive literature in the form of papers (but no books) on lattice dynamical systems. The book focuses on dissipative lattice dynamical systems and their attractors of various forms such as autonomous, nonautonomous and random. The existence of such attractors is established by showing that the corresponding dynamical system has an appropriate kind of absorbing set and is asymptotically compact in some way. There is now a very large literature on lattice dynamical systems, especially on attractors of all kinds in such systems. We cannot hope to do justice to all of them here. Instead, we have focused on key areas of representative types of lattice systems and various types of attractors. Our selection is biased by our own interests, in particular to those dealing with biological applications. One of the important results is the approximation of Heaviside switching functions in LDS by sigmoidal functions.Nevertheless, we believe that this book will provide the reader with a solid introduction to the field, its main results and the methods that are used to obtain them.

This book was released on 2005-07-06 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the dynamics of coupled map lattices (CML) and of related spatially extended systems. It will be useful to post-graduate students and researchers seeking an overview of the state-of-the-art and of open problems in this area of nonlinear dynamics. The special feature of this book is that it describes the (mathematical) theory of CML and some related systems and their phenomenology, with some examples of CML modeling of concrete systems (from physics and biology). More precisely, the book deals with statistical properties of (weakly) coupled chaotic maps, geometric aspects of (chaotic) CML, monotonic spatially extended systems, and dynamical models of specific biological systems.

This book was released on 2012-05-22 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this sequel to two earlier volumes, the authors now focus on the long-time behavior of evolution inclusions, based on the theory of extremal solutions to differential-operator problems. This approach is used to solve problems in climate research, geophysics, aerohydrodynamics, chemical kinetics or fluid dynamics. As in the previous volumes, the authors present a toolbox of mathematical equations. The book is based on seminars and lecture courses on multi-valued and non-linear analysis and their geophysical application.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects papers, based on invited talks given at the IMA workshop in Modeling, Stochastic Control, Optimization, and Related Applications, held at the Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications, University of Minnesota, during May and June, 2018. There were four week-long workshops during the conference. They are (1) stochastic control, computation methods, and applications, (2) queueing theory and networked systems, (3) ecological and biological applications, and (4) finance and economics applications. For broader impacts, researchers from different fields covering both theoretically oriented and application intensive areas were invited to participate in the conference. It brought together researchers from multi-disciplinary communities in applied mathematics, applied probability, engineering, biology, ecology, and networked science, to review, and substantially update most recent progress. As an archive, this volume presents some of the highlights of the workshops, and collect papers covering a broad range of topics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As in the previous volume on the topic, the authors close the gap between abstract mathematical approaches, such as applied methods of modern algebra and analysis, fundamental and computational mechanics, nonautonomous and stochastic dynamical systems, on the one hand and practical applications in nonlinear mechanics, optimization, decision making theory and control theory on the other. Readers will also benefit from the presentation of modern mathematical modeling methods for the numerical solution of complicated engineering problems in biochemistry, geophysics, biology and climatology. This compilation will be of interest to mathematicians and engineers working at the interface of these fields. It presents selected works of the joint seminar series of Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Institute for Applied System Analysis at National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”. The authors come from Brazil, Germany, France, Mexico, Spain, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and the USA.
