Book excerpt: Delhi OMG! is the story of one man’s struggle for survival in the colorful, yet tough Indian city of Delhi. Summary Of The Book Delhi OMG! is the story of a man named Dinesh. It is set in the big, bad city of Delhi, traversing some of the key places in the city and exposing its shocking underbelly. Dinesh is a middle class man who goes from living in government flats in Netaji Nagar to a posh, luxurious DLF residence. As Dinesh goes about his life in Delhi, he encounters various characters from all walks of life. His journey also takes him to several hot-spots of the city, acquainting him with a different side of Delhi, a shocking side often hidden under the cloak of superficiality. At once humorous and hard-hitting, the story presents the vibrant as well as the dark side of life in Delhi. The book explores themes like bribery, obsession with foreign women, sex trafficking, and the well-known fixation of Delhiites on the concept of self-image. Common perceptions about the city of Delhi are once again brought to the fore, and perhaps even strengthened by the narrative. Delhi OMG! was first published in 2012 by Om Books International. The girl was homely, good and sweet; yet she was light years away from the Emperor in terms of looks and stature. The Emperor wanted to send a love letter to her. He had a million messengers at His beck and call. He could have sent the best poet in the world, who could have composed an epic on Him. Or could have sent the world's finest dancer. Or the best scholar. Or the greatest warrior. Instead the Emperor chose a lousy courier boy, who was lazing around, for the job. The boy could not speak well or run fast. Yet in a state of ecstasy he ran all the way to the girl's house. And delivered the letter. The Emperor is the Lord. And you are the girl. He has fallen in love with you. And OH MY GOD! is His love letter. I am the lousy courier boy. You may hate the courier boy. But I entreat you, my dears, don't ever neglect the message from your beloved, the Emperor. - Varalotti Rengasamy

Book Synopsis Delhi by : Elizabeth Chatterjee

Download or read book Delhi written by Elizabeth Chatterjee and published by Random House India. This book was released on 2013-12-02 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘... nobody who lives there, nobody at all, has much good to say about Delhi.’ Along with Milton Keynes, Detroit and Purgatory, Delhi is one of the world’s great unloved destinations. So when Elizabeth Chatterjee makes her way from the cool hum of Oxford to the demented June heat of heat of Delhi to research her PhD, she find herself both baffled and curious about the je ne sais quoi of this city of ‘graveyards and tombstones’. As flanêur and sagacious resident, Liz takes us through the serpentine power structures, the idyll, the bullshit—peeling layer after layer of the city’s skin to reveal its aspirations, its insecurity, its charm and finally its urban dissonance. Uncannily perceptive, predictive, and hysterical, Delhi Mostly Harmless puts a firm finger on the electric pulse of Delhi.
