Book excerpt: Autoimmune diseases are characterized by the occurrence of antibodies reacting with self-constituents of the body. The fully updated third edition of Autoantibodies is an in-depth review of the main autoantibodies identified up to now, with particular emphasis on those that display a diagnostic or prognostic clinical value. The new edition covers recent scientific advances, diagnostic techniques, and therapeutic technologies. Each chapter is focused on a single family of autoantibodies. This important reference contains historical notes, definitions, origins and sources of antigens recognized genetic associations, mediated pathogenic mechanisms, methods of detection, as well as clinical utility (disease prevalence and association, diagnostic value, sensitivity and specificity, prognostic value). This is an ideal reference for anyone involved in the field of autoimmune diseases. - Presents all known, important autoantibodies in a single source, focusing on the antibodies needed for autoimmune disorder diagnosis - Includes clinical applications for each autoantibody along with general information - Organized by disease and disorder type, by autoantibody family, and completely cross-referenced

This book was released on 2024-10-29 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many autoimmune diseases are induced by pathogenic autoantibodies, that bind to self-antigen expressed in cells and tissues, and induce disease by the recruitment of immune cells, activation of the classical complement pathway or induction of antigen cross-linking and endocytosis. These pathogenic mechanisms are, however, not available to antibodies of the IgG4 subclass, as these differ structurally from the other IgG subclasses, leaving them “immunologically inert”. In general, it is thought that IgG4 is part of an anti-inflammatory immune response to an overreactive pro-inflammatory response, e.g. in the context of helminth infection and allergy.

This book was released on 2024-12-05 with total page 1447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE authoritative guide for clinical laboratory immunology For nearly 50 years, the Manual of Molecular and Clinical Laboratory Immunology has been the premier resource for laboratories, students, and professionals involved in the clinical and technical details of diagnostic immunology testing. The 9th Edition continues its tradition of providing comprehensive clinical and technical information on the latest technologies used in medical and diagnostic immunology. Led by a world-renowned group of authors and editors, this new edition reflects substantial changes aimed at improving and updating the Manual's utility while reflecting the significant transformations that have occurred since the last edition, including the revolution of gene editing and the widespread adoption of molecularly engineered cellular therapies. Topical highlights include: Laboratory Management: three new chapters cover essential aspects of quality assurance, quality improvement, and quality management, aligning with the increasingly stringent and demanding regulatory environment. Inborn Errors of Immunity: the primary immunodeficiency section has been completely updated to align with the latest International Union of Immunological Societies' classifications of inborn errors of immunity. Functional Cellular Assays: expanded content includes detailed discussions on various functional assays critical for modern immunologic testing. Autoimmune Diseases: expanded chapters on systemic and organ-specific autoimmune disorders, including new chapters on Sjögren's syndrome and deficiency of ADA2, as well as significant updates on organ-specific autoimmune diseases. Transplantation Immunology: updated chapters detail the assessment of immune reconstitution and ABO testing, reflecting latest practices. The 9th Edition of the Manual of Molecular and Clinical Laboratory Immunology serves as an invaluable resource for laboratory directors, clinicians, laboratory managers, technologists, and students. It provides critical insights into the selection, application, and interpretation of immunologic tests, offering practical guidance on troubleshooting, clinical application, and an understanding of test limitations. This comprehensive and up-to-date manual remains an essential tool for anyone involved in the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of immune-mediated and immune system-related disorders.
