Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, EU Member States have regularly complained about the perceived abuse of EU law via marriages of convenience, allegedly contracted between mobile EU citizens and third-country nationals. During the pre-Brexit years, the UK had been voicing particularly strong concerns about the issue, which ultimately resulted in regulatory changes both at the EU and national level. In this book, Aleksandra Ancite-Jepifánova pursues two interrelated aims. First, she evaluates the compatibility of EU-level measures addressing marriages of convenience with EU free movement law by focusing on the Citizenship Directive. Second, she examines the regulation of the issue in UK law in so far as it concerns the residence rights of EU citizens and their family members, both pre-and post-Brexit.

Vowing to get her own revenge on those who had hurt her because she had no one to protect her, Emily decided that she would marry no one but one of the most powerful men in England-the Duke of Ivory. The thing was, Emily had never met him before and when she finally did met him, she realized that he was just as handsome as the devil. He was also rude. She was out for vengeance but ended up falling in love... Nicholas needed to get married within two weeks but then, he set eyes on Emily West, the red-haired beauty popularly known as 'The Red Jewel of West'. He wanted her from the moment he had set eyes on her and since she wouldn't be his mistress, he decided that marrying her would solve his problems. This is a story of two desperate people who needed to marry for one reason or the other and having a marriage of convenience seemed to be their option. Falling in love was never their plan and when they both realized that their agreement stood in their own feelings, the two had to fight for each other.

Now ten years later, she just discovered that she wasn't just an orphan, she was also penniless and homeless. Her only salvation was Eric Miller, the same man who had destroyed her ten years ago and made her forgot what it means to laugh. Eric had made a promise to marry Amanda ten years ago and now, it was time he returned home to fulfill his promise and be with the love of his life. Amanda was not happy to see him and he didn't blamed her, after all, ten years ago, he had betrayed her. He vowed to get back the woman he loves-even if it meant marrying her against her will. Would the past allow these two love again? Would a marriage of convenience be enough? What happens when these two find out they had each been lied to?
