Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At 84, John T. Finnegan has written his first novel, and what a story! This beautiful and intensely personal narrative will tug at your heartstrings. Finnegan's book contains passages about his childhood, World War II, his marriage, and his experiences and battles with the Railroad Union. In his chapter titled Angel, he regales good times and bad in a local bar, baring his soul about his life and what he's learned along the way. From 1935 to the present, Finnegan touches on his life's ups and downs with grace and humor. Commenting on sensitive subjects such as the civil rights movement, rocky relationships, Catholicism, Union antics and rules, the sadness and joy of raising children, and alcoholism, Finnegan pulls no punches. With brutal honesty and the wisdom that comes from living through harsh times, Everyman's Story is not for the faint of heart. It is a gripping, candid and a wonderfully written slice-of-life account that baby boomers and the Greatest Generation will recognize and deeply appreciate. John T. Finnegan has written a three-act musical with eight original songs and four original dance numbers; two children's stories; one short story; and a how-to tennis book titled My Serve. He lives with his wife, Celeste, in Southern California. Publisher's website: http: //www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/EverymansStory.htm

Book Synopsis Sailor Song by : Gerry Smyth

Download or read book Sailor Song written by Gerry Smyth and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Passed down in the oral tradition and sung traditionally as working songs, sea shanties tell the human stories of life at sea: hard graft, battling the elements, the loss of ships or pining for a lady on shore. Its pages decorated with hand-drawn or wood-cut illustrations from celebrated artist Jonny Hannah, Sailor Song addresses the current modern revival of sea shanties, and seeks to celebrate and to explore the historical, musical and social history of the traditional sea song through 40 beautiful, mournful, haunting and uplifting shanties. Acclaimed shanty devotee Gerry Smyth presents the background to each one alongside musical notation. The lyrics are elaborated with explanations of terminology, context including historical facts and accounts of life at sea, and the characters, both fictional and non-fictional, that appear in the songs from the great age of sail to the last days of square-rig. Where appropriate, a direct digital link is made to a shanty recording in the British Library Sound Archive.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I began this book not as a planned publication but as an in-depth chronicle of my recollections. It is a very raw and largely unedited and every word I personally wrote. Most of my life's experiences contained in the book cover the years from 1942 to 2001. I did not write it for profit or any notion of self-aggrandizement, but something to pass on to my propensity. In fact, my preference is that sales remain low. It does contain several items of historical note probably not covered in other publications. My reasoning was to convert a very lengthy memo into published form because of a similar effort by my Great Grandfather Marshall George Newman (Son of an Indian Chief) that failed. He composed a very lengthy document about his experiences from 1840s forward. That document passed through many hands and eventually disappeared. I did not want to repeat his experience so I elected to complete it in a book that would probably last for many years. Are there inaccuracies in this book, probably, but very few as I made every effort to be honest, direct, and straightforward in all aspects in developing the final product. Perhaps the biggest issue many would have is how honest I related both the good and bad of my life without the obfuscation we see, read, and hear in everyday life. I know of no other path to take than to be honest and not join in the trampling of the word integrity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teenage Warrior is primarily about the effect WWII had on baby brothers who watched older brothers leave home to serve their country. Being left behind, feeling useless, and all the normal frustrations of early teens. Bill became a teenage delinquent before the term was coined. He wrangled his way into the Navy at 15 and soon had doubts that he could handle it. Remembering his Dad's words, I'll help you get in but won't help you get out, he served 32 months during the war. 26 months were spent at sea and 12 months were spent in combat zones. The WWII tales in this book vary from serious to humorous. Bill survived the explosion of the Chicago Naval Ammunition Depot, hurricane Cobra, a surprise Japanese Betty bombing of B29's at Tinian, and a psycho ward on Roi Namur Island. The book is full of surprises as Bill remembers some of the good times he had even in the face of battle. Bill became a WWII Veteran, same as his four older brothers.
