Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is a lunar atlas designed specifically for use in the field by lunar observers. Its title – The Six-inch Lunar Atlas – refers both to the aperture of the telescope used to make the images in the book, and also to the book’s physical size: so it’s perfect for fitting into an observer’s pocket! The author’s own lunar photographs were taken with a 6-inch (150mm) telescope and CCD camera, and closely match the visual appearance of the Moon when viewed through a modest (3-inch to 8-inch) telescope. (Depending on seeing, of course.) Each picture is shown oriented "as the Moon really is" when viewed from the northern hemisphere, and is supplemented by exquisite computer sketches that list the main features. Two separate computer sketches are provided to go with each photograph, one oriented to appear as seen through an SCT telescope (e.g. the Meade and Celestron ranges), the other oriented for Newtonian and refracting telescopes. It is worth commenting that most observers find it extremely difficult to identify lunar features when using a conventional atlas and SCT telescope – the human brain is very poor at making "mirror-image" visual translations. There is a page of descriptions for the salient features in each photograph.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Hatfield Lunar Atlas" has become an amateur lunar observer's bible since it was first published in 1968. A major update of the atlas was made in 1998, using the same wonderful photographs that Commander Henry Hatfield made with his purpose-built 12-inch (300 mm) telescope, but bringing the lunar nomenclature up to date and changing the units from Imperial to S.I. metric This edition is important since the fact is that modern telescope optics, digital imaging equipment and computer enhancement can easily surpass what was achieved with Henry Hatfield's 12-inch telescope and a film camera. This limits the usefulness of the original atlas to visual observing or imaging rather small amateur telescopes. The new, digitally re-mastered edition vastly improves the clarity and definition of the original photographs - significantly beyond the resolution limits of the photographic grains present in earlier atlas versions - while preserving the layout and style of the original publications. This has been achieved by merging computer-visualized Earth-based views of the lunar surface, derived from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter data, with scanned copies of Commander Hatfield's photographic plates, using the author's own software. The results is a "The Hatfield Lunar Atlas" for 21st century amateur telescopes up to and beyond 12-inch aperture.

This book was released on 2024-12-05 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of lunar crescent visibility criterion is vital in providing a comparative insight for predicting the visibility and suitability for Hijri calendar determination. While there have been previous attempts to measure the performance of lunar crescent visibility criterion, these attempts only apply to a singular analysis and not a comparative examination. Design, Development and Analysis of Lunar Crescent Visibility Criterion with Python explores the development of an analysis tool for lunar crescent visibility criterion using an integrated lunar crescent visibility database. The analysis tool, called HilalPy and HilalObs, was developed in the form of a Python library, so that it can be integrated into other software and webpages to enable deployment into various operating systems. This book will provide useful insights for the future development of lunar crescent visibility criterion, particularly for calendrical purposes. Key Features: ● Presents an analysis tool for lunar crescent visibility based on an integrated lunar crescent report database. ● Offers researchers and practitioners the capability to perform comparative analyses of the percentage of reliability in lunar crescent visibility criteria, thereby contributing to the construction of robust criteria for determining the Hijri calendar. ● Provides a comprehensive resource for researchers, students, policymakers, and practitioners involved in the determination of the Hijri calendar.
