Book excerpt: Single chamber processing has attracted the attention of a number of researchers as well as industries as an alternative processing "philosophy" to complement or even replace the stringent environment of micro- and optoelectronics device fabrication. Up till now single chamber processing has been an elusive manufacturing objective throughout the history of integrated circuit technology. With the emergence of integrated processing tools in recent years, significant segments for continuous fabrication processes have been successfully realised and their potential has already innovated the industry. The 14 papers in this volume cover topics such as: The background of this approach and up-dated status; Design and concepts of relevant cluster tools equipment; Specific process modules such as deposition chambers (CVD, RTCVD, UVCVD, ...) annealing or etching reactors; and Standardization efforts. The work will provide both a stimulus for future research in this field, as well as useful reference material on the new technology trends in microelectronic device manufacturing technology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Infogest” (Improving Health Properties of Food by Sharing our Knowledge on the Digestive Process) is an EU COST action/network in the domain of Food and Agriculture that will last for 4 years from April 4, 2011. Infogest aims at building an open international network of institutes undertaking multidisciplinary basic research on food digestion gathering scientists from different origins (food scientists, gut physiologists, nutritionists...). The network gathers 70 partners from academia, corresponding to a total of 29 countries. The three main scientific goals are: Identify the beneficial food components released in the gut during digestion; Support the effect of beneficial food components on human health; Promote harmonization of currently used digestion models Infogest meetings highlighted the need for a publication that would provide researchers with an insight into the advantages and disadvantages associated with the use of respective in vitro and ex vivo assays to evaluate the effects of foods and food bioactives on health. Such assays are particularly important in situations where a large number of foods/bioactives need to be screened rapidly and in a cost effective manner in order to ultimately identify lead foods/bioactives that can be the subject of in vivo assays. The book is an asset to researchers wishing to study the health benefits of their foods and food bioactives of interest and highlights which in vitro/ex vivo assays are of greatest relevance to their goals, what sort of outputs/data can be generated and, as noted above, highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the various assays. It is also an important resource for undergraduate students in the ‘food and health’ arena.

This book was released on 2024-09-30 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Toxic and hazardous pollutant treatment of wastewater is a longstanding challenge faced in every region across the globe. Growing urbanization, combined with the increased use of detergent soaps, cleansing agents with new formulations, chemical fertilizers, and pesticides, has greatly added to the global wastewater pollution burden. Conventional methods of wastewater treatment are somewhat successful in decontamination, but these current techniques require more time and energy than newer, novel techniques. Bioelectrochemical oxidation systems (BEOSs), for example, have greatly aided in wastewater treatment sustainability and efficiency, and offer promising solutions for different types of energy recovery options. Bioelectrochemical Oxidation Processes for Wastewater Treatment examines the latest hybrid technologies utilizing algae, bacteria, and various other chemical agents, and discusses the major challenges in large-scale operations, as well as forward-looking techniques to make treatment processes even more sustainable in the future. It: Discusses the fundamentals of biological wastewater treatment and bioelectrochemical oxidation systems, as well as their advantages and limitations. Presents the recent trends and developments in bioelectrochemical oxidation systems for achieving environmentally sustainable wastewater treatment. Describes carbon capture and resource recovery from wastewater using bioelectrochemical oxidation systems. Addresses the challenges of large-scale implementation of bioelectrochemical oxidation systems in existing and new wastewater treatment plants.

This book was released on 2016-05-09 with total page 1993 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Digital atlas [www.plantatlas.eu] of traditional agricultural practices and food processing documents the various processes involved in the production of food--from working the fields through to processing the crops for food, fodder, and other purposes. The atlas aims to define and describe these various processes unambiguously by using a standardized vocabulary and by explicitly taking into account the intention behind each process. Illustrated with more than 3,000 photographs and numerous films documenting 20 years of field observation in the Mediterranean area, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent, the atlas also includes detailed case studies of the practices and processes involving grapes, olives, date palms, barley, and wheat. Many of these processes are part of the intangible cultural heritage of agriculture that is now rapidly disappearing.

Auciello and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synthesis of multicomponent/multilayered superconducting, conducting, semiconducting and insulating thin films has become the subject of an intensive, worldwide, interdisciplinary research effort. The development of deposition-characterization techniques and the science and technology related to the synthesis of these films are critical for the successful evolution of this interdisciplinary field of research and the implementation of the new materials in a whole new generation of advanced microdevices. This book contains the lectures and contributed papers on various scientific and technological aspects of multicomponent and multilayered thin films presented at a NATO/ASI. Compared to other recent books on thin films, the distinctive character of this book is the interdisciplinary treatment of the various fields of research related to the different thin film materials mentioned above. The wide range of topics discussed in this book include vacuum-deposition techniques, synthesis-processing, characterization, and devices of multicomponent/multilayered oxide high temperature superconducting, ferroelectric, electro-optic, optical, metallic, silicide, and compound semiconductor thin films. The book presents an unusual intedisciplinary exchange of ideas between researchers with cross-disciplinary backgrounds and it will be useful to established investigators as well as postdoctoral and graduate students.
