Almost like a relationship, but not quite. It is a phase where the persons involved are more than friends, but not quite lovers. “Ate Noreen’s words and lines are very touching but at the same time very realistic. Reading her blog (entry about me) made me realize a lot of things. I didn’t know how my simple gestures affect other people’s lives. I am looking forward to working with Ate Noreen again.” — Enchong Dee, actor

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lahat tayo nagmamahal. Pero hindi lahat, minamahal. ’Yung iba, niloloko, sinasaktan, iniiwan. May ibang binubulungan ng “I love you.” May ibang tinatanong ng “Will you marry me?” At may iba na sinasabihan ng “Goodbye.” Ito ay para sa lahat ng nagmahal, pero nasaktan at naiwan . . . para sa mga nagpapaalam. Para sa mga Goodbye Girl. The Goodbye Girl is a compilation of short, witty, and heartwarming essays about heartache, heartbreak, and moving on. Noringai introduces readers to the five types of “goodbye girl”: the invisible girl, the other girl, the heartbroken girl, the bitter girl, and finally, the new girl. It is her hope that readers can “find comfort, hope, and even humor in every story,” and make them realize that what they are feeling “may be universal, but it’s just temporary.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the second in a two-part collection of research on discourse particles focusing exclusively on the languages of Asia from the perspective of formal as well as non-formal semantics and pragmatics. Despite increasing interest in discourse particles, most research in the area (particularly within formal semantics and pragmatics) focuses on a restricted set of languages, and there has been little consensus on the proper formal treatment of particles. The term "discourse particles" has been used to cover a broad range of phenomena, including such things as "sentence-final particles," "discourse adverbs," and other related phenomena. In recent years, there has been extensive development of the formal approach to discourse particles, which often treats these words as devices for marking information updates. It is vital however, to extend this data to non-Western languages, like Malay, Thai, or Vietnamese. These two volumes are the first to give an exclusive focus on particles in non-European languages (in this case, Asian languages), from the perspective of formal and non-formal semantics and pragmatics. This second volume includes chapters on Tagalog, Kimaragang Dusun (Malaysia), Malay, Singlish (Colloquial Singapore English), Thai, and Vietnamese. The chapters are informed by recent theoretical work in formal and non-formal semantics and pragmatics relating to the meaning of particles. The collection contributes to our theoretical understanding of the meaning of discourse particles and to empirical knowledge of discourse particles in the languages of Asia. It will be of interest to postgraduate students and scholars of semantics and pragmatics.

Book excerpt: For 24 years that I have been here in this world, marami na akong napagdaanan. Marami na rin akong aral na nakuha mula sa karanasan na ‘yun. Hindi ko naman sinabi na lahat ng karanasan ko ay may makukuha kang aral. Maaaring yung iba, pero hindi lahat. I have bipolar disorder, a lifetime psychological illness. Pero I never treated it like an illness, I treated it like my friend. I even use it to my advantage. Yung tipo na kapag alam ko na manic ako, I use it to write books or be productive ngunit hindi pa rin maiiwasan ang pagkakaroon ng downsides. I will not dig in any further. May love, may drama, may inis, may galit, at may excitement. Sana ma-enjoy n’yo, kasi ako na-enjoy ko habang sinusulat ko ‘to. ‘Pag hindi, edi ‘wag.

This book was released on 2018-11-11 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection brings to the forefront attempts to connect critical pedagogy and ELT (English Language Teaching) in different parts of the world. The authors in this collection write from their own experiences, giving the chapters nuanced understanding of the everyday struggles that teachers, teacher educators and researchers face within different contexts. Throughout the book, contributors connect micro-contexts (classrooms) with macro-contexts (world migration, politics and social issues) to demonstrate the impact and influences of pedagogy. In problematizing ELT and focusing on so-called ‘peripheral’ countries where educators have created their own critical pedagogies to respond to their own local realities, the contributors construct ELT in a way that goes beyond the typical ESL/EFL distinction. This unique edited collection will appeal to teacher educators, in-service teachers working in the field as well as students and scholars of English language teaching, second language acquisition and language education policy.
