Book excerpt: The Omega-Theory: A New Physics of Earthquakes, Second Edition offers a unifying, mathematical framework to describe and answer the most pressing and unexamined dilemmas of earthquake sequences. Those in the fields of seismology and geology are currently faced with a vast and complex mathematical structure, involving many new, natural laws and theorems. This book interprets this structure as a new physical theory and paradigm, helping users understand the tectonic and seismic processes within the Earth. As such, it is an essential resource for future researchers in the fields of structural geology, physics of the Earth, and seismology. In the last decades, generations of seismologists, geophysicists, and geologists have accumulated enough knowledge and information to allow for the reformulation and solution of this essential problem. Hence, this book provides a great resource for researchers and professionals. - Brings together twenty years of research in the field of geophysics and attacks the problem within the framework of the Cosserat continuum theory - Heavily tested on tens of natural examples and numerical tests - Includes 350 color figures and graphs - Spans across many fields of theoretical physics and geology, such as plate tectonics, synchronization of chaotic systems, solitons and fractals, mathematical set theory, and quantum mechanics

Book excerpt: The alpha roughly brought her closer to him, his gaze hovering over the omega like the shadow of a thunderstorm. "Everything happened according to your wish, didn't it? You ruined everything! You!—a pathetic creature like you made me put my Pack in danger!" He seethed, making her flinch. "Are you going to stand there like a mute?" He asked, frustrated that she wasn't uttering a single word. "I-I'm sorry, A-Alpha..." Evelyn didn't even know what she was sorry about but she just wanted her mate to calm down. She didn't want him to be angry. He already hated her enough. ●○●○● Evelyn is an omega, the lowest rank among the werewolves. The girl had to suffer a lot since childhood. With an unknown enemy chasing her day and night, she was on the brink of losing hope. That's when he found her. Keiran Winter, the Alpha of one of the powerful Packs in the world, despised the weak with a passion. So when he got to find that his mate is the weakest human he has ever seen, it wasn't all rainbows and butterflies for him. He wanted nothing to do with her. But he was everything to her.

Book excerpt: On November 6 and 7, 1987, lipid and lipoprotein researchers from all over Europe convened in Munich on the occasion of the second European Workshop on Lipid Metabolism (EWLM). This informal gathering was devoted to two main topics, and recent research results were presented and discussed during a poster session. Recent developments in the physiology and pathophysiology of lipoprotein sub fractions were discussed on the first day of the meeting. In recent years, new analytical tools have been created for analyzing lipoprotein subfractions, particularly the apolipoprotein component. With the, introduction of immunological and elec trophoretic methods it has become clear that the heterogeneity of the plasma lipopro tein system is even greater than had been assumed only a decade or so ago. Despite this, it is apparent from the contributions to this volume that new methods for differentiating lipoprotein subfractions will increase our understanding of lipoprotein metabolism, especially of the triglyceride-rich lipoprotein particles and the high density lipoproteins. The complex functions of the various plasma apolipoproteins and their association with the lipoprotein lipid in single or complex lipoprotein particles give rise to a complex and dynamic metabolic system that changes constantly during the day. While it has for some time been possible to delineate fairly accurately the atherogenic potential of low-density lipoproteins, which are comparatively simple lipoprotein particles, the new methods of lipoprotein subfraction analysis will be needed to select and differentiate amongst the potentially atherogenic triglyceride rich particles, especially the chylomicron and very low density lipoprotein remnants.

Book excerpt: Humankind has grappled for millennia with the fundamental questions of the origin and end of the universe--it was a focus of ancient religions and myths and of the inquiries of Aristotle, Galileo, Copernicus, Kepler, and Newton. Today we are at the brink of discoveries that should soon reveal the deepest secrets of the universe. Alpha and Omega is a dispatch from the front lines of the cosmological revolution that is being waged at observatories and laboratories around the world-in Europe, in America, and even in Antarctica--where scientists are actually peering into both the cradle of the universe and its grave. Scientists--including galaxy hunters and microwave eavesdroppers, gravity theorists and atom smashers, all of whom are on the trail of dark matter, dark energy, and the growing inhabitants of the particle zoo-now know how the universe will end and are on the brink of understanding its beginning. Their findings will be among the greatest triumphs of science, even towering above the deciphering of the human genome. This is the book you need to help understand the frequent front-page headlines heralding dramatic cosmological discoveries. It makes cutting-edge science both crystal clear and wonderfully exciting.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: He once believed true love lasted forever... Prince Richard Hargreave has been raised in the customs of his pack—to wed the mate chosen for him by the Wolf Goddess and become Wolf King of Altaden. He just didn't expect to fall so deeply in love. Justin Turner is perfect for Richard in every way. Not only is the omega wolf gay, but he's sweet, kind, and just a little shy—traits severely lacking in the royal court. But when the king's new Dreamer, the Goddess's oracle and divine matchmaker, proclaims the previous oracle a fraud and traitor, Richard is devastated. The new Dreamer claims Richard has been deceived, and the sweet, adoring Justin is not his mate after all. The selection of the omega wolf was nothing more than a plot to taint the royal line. Richard can hardly believe it's true, but a prince's duty to his pack must be greater than his own desires, even if it breaks his heart forever. Justin Turner is leading a charmed life. How else could an omega nobody like him wind up betrothed to a man like Richard Hargreave? Crown prince or not, Justin loves him with all his heart. It wasn't that long ago that the Dreamer priestess appeared on his doorstep, declaring the Wolf Goddess had chosen him as Richard's mate. Since that day, the two had become inseparable. And now, he can barely contain his excitement—he has a surprise for Richard that will change their lives forever. But when he arrives at the place, Richard has a surprise of his own. The betrothal is off. The previous Dreamer betrayed them, and everything they shared was a lie. The new Dreamer has spoken. Justin is no longer Richard's mate. Shattered by the rejection, Justin can barely breathe. After the guards remove him from the palace, he has no choice but to flee with his secret untold—that Richard Hargreave, Crown Prince of Altaden, is going to be a father… Reader note: contains M/M Mpreg romance, wolf shifters, rejected mates, male male love, royal princes, omega wolves, secret babies, second chances, and six loyal dogs
