In this Christian classic, Alan Redpath blends insights from 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 Chronicles, and Psalms to demonstrate how God shapes those who are responsive to his love. Despite his many faults, David became a man who wondrously understood and reflected the mind of God. Both men and women will find themselves identifying with David's struggles and triumphs, giving them a glimpse of how God is continually shaping them as well.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The road. Those that travel for business know what I mean by the challenge of the road. The road is hard: from staying in shape, eating, and getting any rest to keeping up with the work, connecting with your family back home, and just finding a few minutes to yourself to think and catch your breath. Then you add the relentless distractions and temptations that only a road warrior knows and experiences. The evil one whispers everything from "Nobody will ever know" to It's the cost of doing business to win or keep the deal so it's okay, right?" The guilt, shame, and regret of the spiritual road warrior are all too often overwhelming and paralyzing. One of my biggest challenges on the road is not only finding time alone with God, but specially reading something that can relate to my life as a business traveler. Until now. So, why David? And what does he have to do with the life of a business traveler? Plenty.

Book excerpt: From the Exodus through the Life of David is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by James Russell Miller (20 March 1840 – 2 July 1912) was a popular Christian author, Editorial Superintendent of the Presbyterian Board of Publication, and pastor of several churches in Pennsylvania and Illinois. James Russell Miller was born near Frankfort Springs, Pennsylvania, on the banks of the Big Traverse, which according to his biographer, John T. Faris, is a merry little mill stream which drains one of the most beautiful valleys in the southern part of Beaver County. His parents were James Alexander Miller and Eleanor Creswell who were of Irish/Scottish stock. Miller was the second child of ten, but his older sister died before he was born. James and his sisters attended the district school in Hanover Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania until, when James was about fourteen, his father moved to a farm near Calcutta, Ohio. The children then went to the district school during the short winters and worked on the farm during summer. In 1857, James entered Beaver Academy and in 1862 he progressed to Westminster College, Pennsylvania, which he graduated in June 1862. Then in the autumn of that year he entered the theological seminary of the United Presbyterian Church at Allegheny, Pennsylvania.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of 2 Samuel covers the adult life of King David, a life full of unexpected events which had ripple effects throughout the forty years of his reign. Many people know only a few of the stories, but in this study guide, we will examine thirteen separate events, the people that were involved, and the end result. There are so many interesting people in 2 Samuel. Each person has strengths as well as weaknesses, which proves that they were real people. God makes sure to show the good and the bad things that happened in David's life so that we can learn from them and, hopefully, not repeat his mistakes in our own lives. Do you love God but feel that you have made too many mistakes in your life for God to ever use you to do something great? David was said to be a man after God's own heart, and yet he still made bad choices. This book proves that you can never make any mistake that God cannot forgive. God looks for people with willing hearts, not perfect people. Are you willing to hear what God has to say? If so, join me in studying the life of David, and I guarantee that God will speak to you!
