Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First-Of-Its-Kind Guide to Polymeric Adhesives and Sealants. Now you can find in a single, well-organized source, information about adhesives and sealants normally available only in technical and vendor literature. In Handbook of Adhesives and Sealants, industry pro Edward Petrie brings together information from chemistry, material and surface sciences, and solid mechanics. Covering structural and non-structural applications, the Handbook lets you thoroughly explore the use of polymeric adhesives and sealants for joining or bonding metals, plastics, composites and elastomers. You get the best available information and recommendations on: *Applicable theories and fundamentals *Joint design *Adhesive/sealant selection *Selecting optimal process and manufacturing equipment *Selecting proper testing and quality control methods *Application, curing, and other production processes *Expected end-use properties The "how-to" user emphasis includes plenty of real-life examples. General formulations clarify why certain components are used, and help you spot future development opportunities in the industry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Adhesives and Sealants, 2nd Edition is primarily written to assist all those who have a permanent or temporary interest in adhesives and sealants. For those new to the field, the Handbook will provide a fundamental knowledge base of materials and processes as well as reasons why they work and (more importantly) why they don’t work. To the more experienced reader, the breadth and thoroughness of the Handbook will provide a way to reduce time spent on trial and error development or on searching for the optimal recommended process. For the academic, the Handbook will connect the important theories regarding surface science, polymeric materials, and mechanics with practical products and applications of commercial significance. This edition includes major new sections on radiation curable adhesive, biological and naturally occurring adhesives, inorganic adhesives, role of bulk properties of the adhesive, non-destructive testing, and industrial application methods. A completely new chapter is devoted to adhesives used in various industries such as automobile, electrical / electronic, construction, packaging, aerospace, household do-it-yourself, and medical.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Preface Surgical tissue adhesives are an ancient idea, going back to the beginnings of recorded history. The concept of adhering, rather than suturing, packing, or stapling planes of tissue is attractive, in that it is fast-acting and assures complete closure. Numerous technologies have been tried; some with limited success, others outright failures. In short, the perfect adhesive does not exist. Limitations occur in a number of areas: strength, toxicity, degradation, and safety. It is also important to keep in mind that "one size fits all" does not apply to adhesives in surgical applications any more than it does in day-to-day application. As one would not use paper glue to seal a bathtub, one would presumably not apply an adhesive onto tendons, which is suitable for sealing corneas. The properties required of an adhesive for each indication are quite different. Over the last twenty-five years, advances have been made in a wide range of technologies targeting some embodiment of a practical and safe adhesive. Foremost and successful among these are cyanoacrylates, marine adhesive proteins, and fibrin-based sealants. Another promising adhesive technology is laser solders, a mixture of polypeptides and proteoglycans, which integrates with the repair site when laser energy is applied. In light of these advances in the field, the Symposium for Surgical Tissue Adhesives was organized and held at the Atlanta Hyatt from October 8-10, 1993. The goal was to bring together these far-flung technologies in a comprehensive and cohesive manner. Presentations by investigators from around the world described the history of adhesives in medicine, current technologies, laboratory characterizations, and application developments, as well as regulatory aspects and clinical applications. We felt that as many viewpoints as possible, however conflicting, were important to present in order to give the most complete picture of the state of the art of surgical adhesives.

Book excerpt: This eBook teaches adhesive and sealant formulation in two steps. Each section first describes the application and chemical basis of the type of adhesive or sealant concerned. This is followed by formulation advice and - if possible - an analysis of existing recipes. This analysis includes a calculation of the important characteristic values of the formulations. All calculations based on recipes and formulations are worked through step by step and should therefore be intelligible to beginners, too. ur choice as well as to download and transfer it up to five additional devices in your possession. You can save the downloaded content on each of the individual devices once to view it unlimited times.
